Explore the landscape through pinhole photography, the simplest but most elemental and magical photographic technique, using an old tea-caddy, some duct tape and a pinhole..! You will be taken through the steps to make a paper pinhole photograph.

FREE: Families and young people, 10+ (Involves using darkroom chemicals, though Chris and Alastair can take care of that for you if you like)

Two-hour session (Introduction then straight into making your own black and white pinhole negatives on paper!) starts at McArthur’s Store at:

Join artist Vicki fleck to make a banner celebrating the wild flower borders sown in Lauderdale Park and the precious bees they will attract. Children can also make their own colourful silk banner to take away.

Solar Paper Photography – Friday Sunshine Fun for Kids! Drop-in Workshop.

Children accompanied by adults (5+); free of charge. This is an open afternoon from 12am until 5 pm. Staring at McArthur’s Store and making solar photographs of the harbour- no chemicals, no mess!

Simple and fun to use, solar paper photography doesn’t require any chemicals or darkroom conditions, you can make photograms straight away. All you need do is take a sheet of solar paper and arrange a composition of objects or negatives onto your paper. Interesting shapes or semi-translucent objects will give a nice effect: rope, stones, grass, flowers, glass objects, feathers, paper stencils– all will work well. Collect things as you walk to the harbour or you can bring your own objects too! After exposing the print in the sunshine for a few minutes, we will wash it in tap-water to see a wonderful white-on-blue image emerge.

You and your children can learn about composition and the physics of light – all in a fun, safe and playful way. And of course you get to keep all your pictures! Alastair will dry them for you and send it to you. You’ll have a chance to make at least 3 images at A4 size, all free of charge.

An introduction to basic book binding skills. Simple folding, gluing and stitching techniques are all that is needed to create a variety of notebooks ready for decoration or use.

Isabell Buenz has taught photography and other art forms for more than 20 years. Since 2000 she has focussed on work with paper, producing a wide range of artists’ books, paper and book sculptures and other paper art work. Most of her creations contain her own photography and text.
